Kevin Douglas -
Kevin Douglas attended Edale Junior School before moving to Lady Manners after successfully completing his 11+ Examination.
In his final year at Lady Manners he played rugby for the 1st XV then Derbyshire, Notts, Lincs and Derby and represented the Midlands against the touring Australian Schools team. This led to a final England U19 trial at Bisham Abbey. He was on the Blue team against the Whites and didn't make the England Schools team but did enough to gain a place at Loughborough University where his rugby continued to improve.
In the same year he also set a new Derbyshire record in the Javelin.
At Loughborough Kevin played for their 1st XV and was selected for the England Universities team as well as the UAU team. This led to England under 23 selection. He was fortunate enough to be in the 1976 Loughborough 7's team that won the Middlesex 7's, Sir Clive Woodward being one of the team members.
The team beat Harlequins in the final and they invited Kevin to join them the following year.
He won the 7's again with Quins in 1978 but after securing a teaching post at Queen Elizabeth's in Barnet, North London he moved clubs to play for Saracens, where he had five seasons before retiring from the game to focus on education.
After teaching PE and mathematics for several years and gaining an Open University degree in mathematics, Kevin became the Deputy Head at Belmont, Mill Hill for ten years. This was followed by13 successful and happy years as the Headmaster of the Junior Branch of University College School in Hampstead.
Kevin was also an ISI Schools Inspector for ten years during this time and was fortunate enough to be awarded an honorary degree from Loughborough University.
After retiring from UCS and teaching in general, Kevin became the Chair of iTrust, the charitable arm of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools, whilst also a Governor of Alleyn's School in Dulwich.
Kevin has now fully retired from all things educational and was honoured recently by the IAPS who presented him with the 2021 Outstanding Service Award at their conference in Bournemouth.
He now lives in Buckinghamshire, and is married to Margaret. They have three married daughters and nine grandchildren who keep them very busy indeed.
