Madeleine Thompson (born 28th March 1995) made her Paralympic debut at London 2012 as one of the youngest players on the women’s Wheelchair Basketball team.

She first became involved with Wheelchair Basketball after meeting former GB player Callum Gordon when she was 10 years old. She was invited to a Sheffield Steelers training session where she has become a regular member of the team as she immediately fell in love with the speed and high-impact nature of the sport.

Having now established herself as a regular player at international level, Maddie became the youngest Wheelchair Basketball player to represent her country when she represented GB in the under-22 European Championships in Adana, Turkey in July 2008 when she was just 13 years old. She went on to be selected for the senior GB team at the 2009 European Championships aged 14, and returned with a bronze medal.

On her Paralympic debut at London 2012, Maddie was part of the team that secured the best finish for ParalympicsGB since the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, finishing in 7th place.

Maddie was born in Chesterfield and attended Lady Manners School.
